Description

There are about 4500 cockroach species world-wide. Most cockroaches are omnivorous (i.e. they eat both plant and animal tissue) and therefore have mouth parts which are adapted to a large range of different foods. The strong mandibles, which are used for cutting and crushing the food before swallowing, can be seen in the lower part of the slide.
