Description

Butterflies are non-social insects. They do not live in colonies and spend much of their life alone. Sometimes they need to travel for very long distances in order to find a mating partner. The large antennae are necessary to sense the chemical signals (pheromones) of a mating partner. The trunk of a butterfly is rolled up during flight. This reduces air resistance.
