Paramecia are single-celled water organisms. They are covered with countless cilia, which are responsible for movement and feeding. Paramecia feed on bacteria and debris and can be found in oxygen-rich and clean pond water. The cells on this slide have been stained to make the cilia and cell organelles more visible. In nature, Paramecia take on the color of the food that they eat. Paramecia that have eaten green algae will thus appear green.
